Philanthropic Expectations

Members of the Young Global Leaders are expected to make an annual leadership gift during each year of YGL term and provide the philanthropic support of Northeastern to others.

Appointment, Term, and Meetings

Appointments are made by Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun for three-year, renewable terms. The most important YGL event is the two-day leadership conference held annually in a major global city. Periodic meetings and other events take place as opportunities warrant.

Mission

The mission of YGL is to actively contribute to the success of Northeastern as a global university built on a tradition of engagement with the world through its distinctive approach to experiential education.

Roles and Responsibilities of YGL Membership

Members of YGL are a select group of engaged, successful, and influential young alumni who have demonstrated the potential for continuing leadership both in their careers and in service to the university. YGL membership reflects cultural and geographic diversity and, as a result, draws its members from around the globe.

YGL members act as advisors to Northeastern’s senior leadership on a variety of issues and opportunities related to the university’s international presence and activities.

The YGL undertakes the following roles and responsibilities:

Promote the worldwide visibility of Northeastern as a prominent global university

Assist in building the university’s international network by identifying and cultivating potential students and corporate, academic, and organizational partnerships

Identify and endorse career, co-op, and other international opportunities for students

Strengthen lifetime connections for alumni internationally, including leadership opportunities and compelling programming

Help to attract philanthropic support for the university from individuals, corporations, and other organizations
