The University Scholars Program is pleased to announce that we will be awarding new Scholars Independent Research Fellowships (SIRFs) this year. SIRFs are designed to support original, student-initiated independent research, creative performance, and project making in close collaboration with a faculty mentor. All University Scholars in good academic standing and with a GPA of at least 3.0 are eligible to apply for SIRF awards of up to $4,000 to be used during the summer. SIRFs can be used to complete group resesarch projects as well. All members of a project group must be University Scholars; each member should complete a separate letter of intent. SIRF Group awards will be correspondingly larger depending on group size.
More than just a financial award, as part of the SIRF application process, University Scholars receive training in how to craft and carry out research proposals.
In order to help Scholars produce compelling, feasible SIRF projects, we will be hosting five Information Session/Application Writing Workshops. If you intend to submit a SIRF Proposal, you should plan on attending one of these. For the sessions prior to our February 14th Letter of Intent Deadline, please bring a draft of a letter of intent. For the workshops after this date, please bring a draft of your proposal.
