All University Scholars are eligible to apply for a Scholars Independent Research Fellowship, provided they meet the eligibility requirements. Scholars Independent Research Fellowships (SIRFs) are designed to support original, student-initiated independent research, creative performance, and project making in close collaboration with a faculty mentor. All University Scholars in good academic standing and with a GPA of at least 3.0 are eligible to apply for individual SIRF awards of up to $5,000 to be used during the summer. This is a competitive grant process and funding is not guaranteed.
This award has since been discontinued and absorbed into the new awards structure, the PEAK Experiences awards as the Trailblazer Award.
More than just a financial award, as part of the Trail-Blazer award application process, applicants receive training in how to craft and carry out research proposals. Learn about some previous Trail-Blazer projects in the video below.
