Gail Batutis – SEI has been my home for the past five years. My closest friends and my greatest accomplishments are from here, and I will always be thankful to the professors and staff who have helped me change and develop my values and professional path. I am excited to work in social enterprise after graduation.
Thu-An Duong – I heard about Social Enterprise Institute on my first day at Northeastern, and I directly wanted to be part of it. I spent two amazing years with amazing people, who I believe will definitely be leaders for change. I saw SEISA grow so much since I got involved, and I am proud I got to be part of that!
Shannon Gille – Finding the SEI community through the 2206 class during my freshmen year truly opened my eyes to what could be possible in a college career. I didn’t get very involved until my fourth year, but I would find people through my years at NU who had some connection to SEI, and realized that it was a community I needed to join more fully. It has shaped my college experience more than anything else, and I have no regrets.
Taylor Holland – SEI offers students an incredible opportunity to combine academic and experiential learning: through classes, a dialogue, international co-op, working as a teaching assistant, and serving on the SE Review E-Board, I’ve been able to learn about social enterprise from so many different angles.
Ali Matalon – I’m grateful to leave Northeastern not solely as an NEU Alum but as an SEI Alum. SEI has provided a space in which I can remain connected to issues within Boston and those affecting my home far outside MA’s borders. It has been my home away from home and my favourite place to work!
Sam Oderman – SEI was my second home for the past 4 years. Professor Shaughnessy and SEI gave me the opportunity of a lifetime: to be able to give my career and my passion meaning and purpose. Because of SEI and my experiences there I am confident our society has the means to change for the better and I know it will. I am forever grateful to SEI and Professor for giving me a chance to be part of the most amazing team. I now leave SEI with a sense of direction for what comes next and with excitement for more people to get involved and enjoy the opportunity to become part of the best socially-conscious/entrepreneurial family.
Angelica Recierdo – I’m grateful SEI welcomed a nurse/writer to document the inspiring work many students and alum are doing around the world! Although I didn’t study social entrepreneurship, I’ve always supported it and just never knew it had a name. Thanks to SEI, I’ve renewed my perpetual sense of social impact and support of small business!
Lindsey Sampson – SEI fundamentally shaped my college experience – my best friends, my academic interests, and my future career goals are all a result of my experience in SEI. I could not have asked to get more out of college, and it’s largely due to this organization and the people in it.
Anea Schaffel – I can’t even state it often enough how path-breaking and important learning about social enterprise at Northeastern has been both for my professional and personal life. Thank you to everyone at SEI and the student association SEISA for the eye-opening lectures, the in-depth discussions on how to solve (and not just complain about) the most pressing global issues, and for all the wonderful and vibrant personalities that I got to spend so much time with! You have changed the way I see the world and business.
Alex Vipond – At SEI, I have learned that social entrepreneurship is a great way to improve social systems without having to start from scratch. Fitting squarely between the private and public sector, it offers us the opportunity to make positive change without sacrificing previous generations’ progress in healthcare provision, labor laws, intellectual property, financial markets, etc. Working and studying with SEI has radically improved my listening, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
