During the summer of 2017, students participating in this Dialogue and APAK (Asociación de Productores Audiovisuales Kichwas) based in Otavalo, Ecuador worked together on three collaborative video projects in support of community entrepreneurs. Over the span of one week, the students worked on one of three teams with APAK throughout every stage of the process beginning with meeting community members and pre-production, then moving into the production and editing phases, and culminating in two community screenings and a banquet dinner (catered by the UNORCAC Women’s Committee).
Mikupashunchik
The Women’s Committee UNORCAC is an organization formed by women from several communities in the Cotacachi canton. One of its productive endeavors is the Kichwa Traditional Food Banquet service. The work was produced in different locations of the Cotacachi canton with the production team working in close collaboration with members of the Women’s Committee.
Sisa Huayku
Sisa Huayku of the parish Imantag is a dance group that’s been working to spread the Imantag culture for thirty years. They are currently committed to motivating the youth of their community to recover their own cultural knowledge and values through dance and theater. The work was produced in different locations of the Imantag parish with members of production team working in close collaboration with members of the organization.
Sumak Muyu
Sumak Muyu of the La Calera community is an organization of indigenous women working in small enterprises to improve the living conditions of their families and the community. Their main project is producing bio jewelery. The work was developed on location in the community with the members of the Sumak Muyu organization, working in close collaboration with the production team.
