On September 11, 2019, Northeastern participated in the 2019 Raise the Bar HIRE! Career Fair in Somerville, Massachusetts. Attracting candidates with disabilities, this event is hosted every year by Work Without Limits, a network of engaged employers and innovative, collaborative partners who’s shared mission is to increase the employment rate of people with disabilities. This year, staff members Stephen Rando, Manager of Talent Acquisition, Tim Heffernan, Talent Acquisition Partner, and Shana Feggins, Americans with Disabilities Act Program Manager, from Human Resources Management at Northeastern joined 31 other companies and institutions to table at this event and actively recruit candidates who attended.
“This amazing event attracted approximately 150 candidates with disabilities, and we had a wonderful turnout of impressive folks that visited our table,” stated Stephen. “Additionally, many of the attendees and event organizers stated that they were extremely appreciative of both our participation in the event and commitment to increasing the employment rate of people with disabilities at Northeastern University.”
Human Resources Management at Northeastern is committed to building a talent focused organization and to providing best-in-class human resource expertise and customer responsive services that are aligned with the institution’s academic plan, Northeastern 2025. With a goal of building “agile networks powered by diversity,” Northeastern 2025 addresses that “networks of diverse ideas, experiences, and perspectives – activated by inclusiveness – strengthen professional, intellectual, and cultural agility.” Participation in the Raise the Bar HIRE! Career Fair brings Northeastern closer to this goal by increasing opportunities for candidates with disabilities and reflects the University’s commitment to utilizing hiring practices with diversity and inclusion in mind.
