Discussion on domestic violence, race and the legacy of Carol Dimaiti with Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins
October 30, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
On October 23, 1989 a pregnant Carol Dimaiti was murdered by her husband Charles Stuart in Mission Hill after the couple left a birthing class. This tragedy not only resulted in the tragic loss of Carol and her son Christopher, but also caused significant and lasting trauma to the Mission Hill community, as Charles accused a fictitious black male of the heinous murder he himself had just committed. As a result of this lie, parts of Boston and the neighborhood of Mission Hill were flooded with police and terrorized in an effort to find the culprit. Weeks later, Charles’ story started unraveling and he ultimately took his own life. All those impacted are still recovering even 30 years later. This discussion will provide an opportunity to reflect on the past, learn about what has been done since that time and focus on the continued work that needs to be done around healing.
