Levin Brudnick Professor of Sociology and Criminology Jack Levin provided commentary to The Boston Globe regarding the "twisted logic" behind homicides carried out by teenage boys. According to Levin, violence of this kind creates a common sense of power among conspiring attackers, as an "initiation ritual, assuring that all of them are bonded in a very intimate way," he said.  Read the full Boston Globe Article>>
Steve Burgard

On October 18th, Steve Burgard of the School of Journalism commented about the recent statement from the New York Times Company declaring that it will not sell The Boston Globe.  Burgard said that, “If any major metropolitan paper is situated to adapt to the new environment, the Globe is.’’ See the full Boston Globe Article>>

Price This October, Emmett Price's article about the influence of Hip-Hop Culture on the English language appeared on afrik.com. Price, the Chair of the Department of African-American Studies, specializes in African American Music and Culture, and conducts research on bridging the generational divide.  See Price's article on afrik.com>>
Sullivan

Denis Sullivan, Director of the Middle East Center for Peace, Culture & Development, commented in Voice of America>> and the Christian Science Monitor>> about Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's visit to the Oval Office this August.

Schroeder Alan Schroeder of the School of Journalism was interviewed by WBUR>> on the topic of lawmakers facing vocal crowd opposition at recent town hall meetings on health care and other issues.  Schroeder, who has written several books on the history of televised debates, says the town hall format — for presidents and for members of Congress — has always been vulnerable to this kind of takeover.
Bluestone This July, the Boston Globe>> featured an op-ed by Barry Bluestone about the UAW and its membership decline.  Much of its decline, said Bluestone, is due to extraordinary blunders made by the auto companies that employ its members. Nonetheless, over the past two decades, the union often failed to take action to preserve the industry and therefore its own membership.
Masson

Terrence Masson of the Creative Industries Program recently appeared in Forbes Magazine>>, commenting on the copious abundance of computer-animated films around the world.  Masson was also interviewed by VFX World about his analytical consulting role on the History Channel's "UFO Hunters."

Dukakis Michael Dukakis, Distinguished Professor of Political Science, co-wrote an op-ed for the Boston Globe, alongside former Massachusetts transportation secretary Fred Salvucci. Their piece, "Transport System Isn't the Problem," commented on the problems with Commonwealth of Massachusetts' governing of transportation.
Andy Sum Andrew Sum of the Center for Labor Market Studies appeared in the Chicago Tribune this May, commenting on the bleak outlook for teens seeking summer jobs in the current economic climate. Sum projected an employment rate of approximately 30 percent, a historic low, which would have a long-term, serious impact on teens' future employment prospects, and the economy at large.
Tick Judith Tick of the Department of Music appeared in a Chronicle Review article discussing the "Politics of Music in the War on Terror."  The article referenced Tick's resolution to the American Musicology Society on the topic of the use of music as torture. In the article, Tick commented on the importance of civic dignity.
