Research: Sandra P. Arevalo is a Research Scientist at the Institute on Urban Health Research at Northeastern University, where she oversees a number of research studies on alcohol and drug use interventions for women from disadvantaged social positions. Ms. Arevalo is also a doctoral student in the department of Sociology at Northeastern University and recipient of the Summer Science Research Fellowship from the National Hispanic Science Network in 2002. Ms. Arevalo was the recipient of the Award of Excellence in Research by a Student from the National Hispanic Science Network in 2007; and the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in the category of Research in the Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences from Northeastern University in 2008. Ms. Arevalo has publications in peer-reviewed journals and three book/report chapters in the areas of substance abuse treatment, health of incarcerated men, sexual and intimate violence, and sexual health.
