Inside Northeastern

Robert Campbell
Assistant Professor,
Pharmaceutical Science; PhD
On the NU student research experience
As a researcher in the cutting-edge field of anticancer drugs, Campbell spends his days thinking about ways to use medicines to shrink tumors. The key, he says, is attacking tumor blood vessels. “Blood vessels are considered the lifeline of a tumor,” Campbell explains. He’s working on strategies to damage tumor blood vessels with chemotherapy drugs. Campbell could have been conducting this research for a pharmaceutical company. Why did he become a Northeastern professor instead? He enjoys teaching. “I like being able to work with students,” he says. “They always seem to shine a fresh perspective on things.”
